All event proceeds will benefit Bethel Hobbs Community Farm a family farm on Long Island, and the only remaining farm in Centereach.  Hobbs Farm has provided produce to Long Islanders since 1906, when James Hobbs moved his family from Georgia to New Village (North Centereach). When James’ son, Alfred, who in 1955 took ownership of the land, passed away in the late 1990s, he left the farm property to the Bethel AME Church in Setauket. However, legal complications caused a delay in transfer, leading to a period when the farm fell into disrepair. Fortunately, Friends of Hobbs Farm formed in 2007 and began the restoration process, renovating the farmhouse and barn and starting a two-acre cooperative gardening project. Today, Hobbs Farm is a 100-percent, volunteer-assisted farm whose annual yield has grown to more than 30,000 pounds. Ninety percent of that amount is donated to a network of local food pantries and food programs, and the profits garnered from the sale of the remaining ten percent purchase seeds, water, fuel and equipment.
